In a significant move towards enhancing access to justice, Chief Justice Martha Koome, alongside Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, officially launched the Tribunals Shared Services on May 12, 2025, at a ceremony held at the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency in Nyalenda, Kisumu.
The new facility aims to streamline and centralize services for tribunals, making it easier for residents in Kisumu and surrounding regions to access vital legal services.
This initiative is part of the Judiciary’s ongoing efforts to improve efficiency and reduce the backlog of cases in the country’s justice system.
The Tribunals Shared Services office will serve as a central hub for handling various tribunal-related matters, including civil disputes, land and environmental cases, and other administrative issues.
By establishing this facility, the Judiciary seeks to enhance transparency, promote better service delivery, and ensure that legal processes are more accessible to citizens.
Governor Nyong’o, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in decentralizing critical services and reducing the need for residents to travel long distances to access justice.
He also highlighted the broader benefits of a robust justice system, especially in supporting local businesses, promoting social equity, and strengthening governance frameworks.
Chief Justice Koome expressed her satisfaction with the development, noting that the new office is a step forward in the Judiciary’s goal to ensure that all Kenyans, regardless of location, have access to justice.
“This facility is an important addition to our shared services model, which ensures that tribunals work efficiently and impartially, serving the needs of the public,” she said.
The launch of the Tribunals Shared Services in Kisumu is expected to bring notable improvements to the local justice system.
