Nairobi, April 14, 2025 — The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a public alert over major traffic disruptions expected along the Mombasa–Malaba transport corridor due to the movement of an abnormally large cargo load.
The oversized convoy, measuring 6.1 meters wide and 25 meters long, began its 16-day cross-country journey on Monday, April 14. The route spans from Mombasa through key towns including Mariakani, Mtito Andei, Kibwezi, Kitui, Embu, Sagana, Nyahururu, Nakuru, Eldoret, and Webuye, before reaching Malaba near the Kenya-Uganda border.
Motorists have been urged to exercise extreme caution, especially when overtaking or approaching the convoy, to avoid accidents and traffic delays. KeNHA emphasized the need for heightened awareness due to the size and slow movement of the load.
In past instances, similar abnormal loads have led to major snarl-ups and drawn widespread attention on social media, as users posted updates and photos of the traffic impact.
Road users are advised to plan travel in advance and remain vigilant along the affected routes throughout the two-week period.
