Access Bank Completes Acquisition of National Bank of Kenya

Access Bank has finalized the acquisition of 100% shareholding in the National Bank of Kenya (NBK) from KCB Group, marking a significant development in Kenya’s financial sector.

The transaction received formal approval from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) on April 4, 2025, and was subsequently greenlit by the National Treasury on April 10, 2025.

With this move, Access Bank — a major pan-African financial institution headquartered in Nigeria — has significantly expanded its presence in Kenya, reinforcing its ambition to become a leading regional banking player.

The acquisition aligns with its strategy to deepen its footprint across East Africa and enhance its retail and corporate banking services.

The transition is expected to bring improved innovation, financial inclusivity, and greater competition within the banking industry.
